Ex-England Star’s Remark: India Not Seen as Major Threat in T20 World Cup 2024

T20 World Cup

India is gearing up to break their ICC trophy dry spell as they kick off their campaign in the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024, commencing on June 1. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team eyes their second T20 world title, reminiscing their victory in 2007. However, recent performances paint a challenging picture, with India facing early exits in the 2021 league stage and the 2022 semi-final.

Ahead of the tournament, former English cricketer David Lloyd weighed in with a significant statement. Speaking to talkSPORT, Lloyd dubbed India as a “predictable team,” expressing doubts about their threat level in the competition. “The shackles are not off,” he remarked, suggesting a lack of risk-taking with bat and ball, which could undermine their potency.

The Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 includes notable names like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Virat Kohli, among others. Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan stand as reserves, bolstering the team’s depth.

India is set to face Bangladesh in a warm-up fixture on June 1 in the USA, with venue details yet to be disclosed. Warm-up matches, spanning from May 27 to June 1, will unfold across the USA and Trinidad and Tobago, with South Africa engaging in an intra-squad match on May 29 in Florida.

Unlike the previous cycle, teams can now opt for up to two warm-up matches, depending on their arrival for the event. These preparatory games, spread across venues like the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Texas and Broward County Stadium in Florida, will not carry T20I status, allowing teams to field their full 15-player squad.
